Postal and parcel services require reading and recognition systems for a whole range of demands. Our core competence is flexible solutions for fast and reliable extraction and interpretation of information for sorting and delivery purposes.
Our technology resolves machine- or hand-written addresses – whether written in Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic or Chinese characters. It also recognizes linear and 2D barcodes, such as stamps, stickers, logos and labels. What’s more, our fingerprint method makes it possible to process items without printing barcodes.
A good image is essential for recognizing address and barcode information. We therefore scan the front side of letters and, if required, the rear side. With parcels we scan the top side or – using a six-side scan – the entire parcel surface, including the barcode. Specialized high-speed scanners are used to capture images. They are able to perfectly capture color and grayscale images of mail, even at letter speeds of over 4 meters per second. The scanners are equipped with long-life LED illumination for high image quality during their entire service life. Special optical filters reduce reflections of glossy areas, such as windows in envelopes, to ensure high read rates in the recognition and reading process.
As for parcels, our fully integrated system offers a solution for collecting barcode, weight and dimension data.
ARTid TM – Fingerprint/Parcel ID
Our Fingerprint technology makes use of the fact that no two mail pieces or parcels look exactly alike. Optical characteristics such as surfaces, stamps and logos are recorded – along with size, volume and weight data. The image-based identification technology thus recognizes a mail piece or parcel throughout the entire process chain. This means the image can be used for in-hub tracking and cross-border tracking – and even third-party tracking for parcels.
Image-based delivery support
If you want to pick a parcel from a truck for delivery, it is easier to find it when you know what it looks like. Since the images already exist, they can also be used by delivery personnel via their mobile devices. The imaging technology supports 2D code reading and provides you with new options for delivery confirmation.
Mail piece images that cannot be resolved by the automatic reading function are manually coded by video coding operators. Video coding can be performed online when the mail piece is processed in the sorting machine, or offline, when, for example, the mail piece is transported to the subsequent sorting center. The video coding devices are grouped in a common video coding pool. We offer a web application for video coding that runs on standard computers and supports a host of video coding modes.
Flex Video Coding
Take advantage of reduced installation, maintenance and training costs with our web-based Flex Coding. This flexible approach to video coding does not follow hierarchical coding rules, making it possible to enter the data in any order.
ARTreadTM – Automatic Reading
ARTread recognizes all postal-relevant objects such as address data, linear and 2D barcodes, logos and symbols. The major advantage of this solution is that it offers outstanding reading performance for all kinds of mail items. The software can also be tailored to individual needs with regard to recognition tasks, read performance and additional services.
ORCA Image Management System
The Open Reading Coding Architecture (ORCA) is a modular system platform for all reading, video coding and image management applications with grayscale and color image processing. It is highly scalable, covering reading and coding solutions for individual sorting machines all the way to countrywide solutions for networked centers.
Reading performance is highly dependent on the quality of the address directory. We therefore recommend the use of Learning Directory. This system “learns” typical spelling errors and updates addresses. It can also identify new address elements frequently occurring on mail – including acceptable writing variations of existing data entries or even new address elements.
We offer automatic forwarding solutions based on ARTread recognition technology for letters and flats. The relevant mail is automatically identified and intercepted before leaving the outward mail center. The new address stored in the system is printed onto the mail piece, which is then forwarded directly to the new address. The system saves time and money by avoiding detours, delivery and transport costs – and it improves service quality.
To protect your revenue, we have created a concept that recognizes fraudulent mail items during the sorting process. In addition, it also collects legally admissible evidence to prove payment claims. ARTread recognition technology offers everything you need for uninterrupted monitoring. Systematic verification is particularly important in the case of digital postmarks, since they cannot be verified by the mail carrier.
